15 year old  Jess Hoskin  won Gold when she competed in the Queensland Schools Triathlon State Championships held last Thursday to Saturday at Hervey Bay.  Jess’s age put her into the Intermediate category and saw her racing approximately 60 other students who had previously qualified for this race throughout the State. The Intermediate race consisted of an Ocean swim 600m, Bike ride of 16km and a 4km Run to the finish.  It was an exciting race with Jess coming out of the water in 2nd place and taking over the lead on the bike leg in the second of four laps.  She then built up a tidy lead on the bike leg and pushed her lead out further on the run to win Gold.  The following day saw her cap off a great weekend when she teamed up with two other students representing Sunshine Coast and they also managed to win Gold in the teams event.  Jess now qualifies to compete in the Australian Schools Triathlon held in Victoria in March. Jess now heads to Melbourne on Friday to compete in Race 3 of the Australian U19 Scody Triathlon Series on Sunday and the following week across to Tasmania for Race 4 and the completion of the Series. Jess is working towards competing in the Australian Youth Triathlon  at Twin Waters in March.  In 2012, Jess won Student Athlete of the Year Award presented by the  Sunshine Coast Daily, Schultz, Toomey, O’Brien, Hot FM and Channel 7.
