With the Raelene Boyle Hall now fully operational, it seems opportune to also celebrate some of our wonderful elite level sports achievers at CCPS. Our outstanding swimmers, Briana Keegan and Cade Stowers (Year 9), following wonderful performances at SCISSA swimming and with their fast qualifying times, have been selected in the Interdistrict Swim Team, Briana in six events. Although I spent most of my summer days with mad dogs and Englishmen out in the midday sun, so I am not a swimmer, but these outstanding athletes are a joy to watch with their fluency and ease of movement in the water. Additionally, it’s a pleasure to learn that Taj Stephenson (Yr 10) and Hugh Williams (Yr 9) in Under 16 Interdistrict Soccer (Football) Team. Taj is an experienced representative player for Sunshine Coast in the Queensland Championships and in the State League in Brisbane, playing in the engine room of midfield; and Hugh is a young and talented Goalkeeper, a highly valued role. Additionally, we learnt on Monday that with Ms Macks who will represent Australia in the World Dragonboat Championships in Hungary in July, Molly Rava has been selected in the Queensland Under 18 team for the Australian Championships. Molly was introduced to Dragonboating by Ms Macks in the School’s sports program. The Raelene Boyle Hall is certainly proving a hit with young and old students, with enthusiastic ball games for the Junior School children on Wednesdays, and some serious basketball moves by some talented Senior School students, boys and girls, on Thursdays. Last week Mr Pederson conducted the Wi-Dance session for young and old together which is a hoot to watch. We look forward to the SportUp Futsal recreational and fitness competition for anyone in the community on Tuesday evenings in the RBH.
