Best wishes to every family for a very happy holiday and a joyous Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all at the Class Parties on Friday 24 January, 2020 at 2pm. Class News by 3JH Science Fun in Year 3 Year 3 have had a blast this term learning all about the three states of matter and how temperature can alter the state of some substances. The students have conducted a number of experiments to see how gas takes up space, how we can change liquids into solids, how we can change solids into liquids and how liquids can turn into gas. The students really had to put on their thinking caps to explain why sunflower oil didn’t freeze when numerous other liquids ended up rock solid after being in the freezer for 24 hours. Turns out, it has a much lower freezing temperature than substances like water and milk. Luckily, we don’t need oil to make things like ice cream and ice blocks! Students have also enjoyed watching videos and learning how the atoms or molecules in substances change according to their temperature. Hopefully the students will use this newfound knowledge when they undertake some cooking lessons in the last week of school.
