At Caloundra City Private School we have created a stimulating and challenging environment in which all students can experience success and thus achieve significant learning outcomes and social development. Such a community needs young people with well-developed leadership skills. Our Student Leadership structure has been formulated with this in mind, providing broad opportunities both formally and informally. The Junior School’s Leadership Program commences in Year 3 when Class Captains are elected each semester. This continues in Years 4 and 5 and the program culminates with the Year 6 students having the opportunity to lead the Junior School in a variety of leadership roles. We have high expectations of Junior School students as they learn to take responsibility for their actions and for providing leadership to their peers in ways suited to their individual talents and abilities. As we have made clear to the students this week, leadership is not all about being the person to stand on their own but rather as the leader of a team. Service to the School community is highly valued and there are many opportunities for the students to contribute as part of the Leadership Program. We support the students to become self-disciplined and self-motivated individuals and we believe that the safe, fair, supportive and caring environment at Caloundra City Private School allows them the freedom to take risks and to rise to the challenges. This week’s whole school assembly was a very special one as we announced and inducted the 2020 Senior School leaders as well as the Years 3 to 5 Class Captains, Junior School Captains, House Captains, and the Students Representative Committee. The role of the Class Parent Representatives varies depending on the requirements of the Year level, however, ultimately they are a line of communication to the teacher and school. If you have any ideas or suggestions please do not hesitate to contact your Class Parent Representative. Junior School Assemblies Our next Junior School Assembly will take place on Wednesday 19th February at 8.30am in the Raelene Boyle Hall. Year 5 will be giving a presentation at this assembly. We will also present Merit Certificates to students from each class. Parents, grandparents and friends are encouraged to join us for these assemblies. You Can Do It Program Our focus for the next two weeks is on the social and emotional capability of ‘Getting Along’. Students will be involved in discussions about what strategies and behaviours help us socialise appropriately. They will be reminded that ‘Getting Along’ is: Listening to others without interrupting Letting others go first Concentrating on your own behaviour and not ‘dobbing’ Using kind words and a kind voice Always including others. Getting Along thinking is: Being tolerant and understanding of others Playing by the rules Thinking first Taking care It would be appreciated if you could support this program at home as it helps reinforce the importance of these social behaviours. Class News from PrepAB We have been having lots of fun in Prep learning our new routines and being introduced to lots of new and exciting things. One of our new activities is our weekly number craft. Every Friday we get to create a new animal or creature using our next number. So far we have created a turtle out of the number zero and a snake out of the number one. We have lots of fun decorating the number and then cutting out all of the pieces and gluing them together a bit like a jigsaw puzzle. Every Friday we get to guess what animal we are going to create that week and we always come up with some very creative ideas. We try to think of animals that might have the same shape as our new number. Once we finish all of our numbers up to 9, we will then get to start our letter craft and make a creation out of a new letter every week.
