Student Career Development Coach

Caloundra City Private School is seeking an experienced Student Career Development Coach to work with students, staff, families and local sunshine coast community.

Caloundra City Private School is leading the way in the future of education, and we are seeking an experienced Student Career Development Coach to guide our young people and help them to discover their strengths, identify their passions and explore their future pathways. We’re looking for an energetic, engaging, and passionate professional development coach who will work with a diverse group of students, staff, families and our local Sunshine Coast communities. 

About the role

The Student Career Development Coach works collaboratively with school communities to promote and foster the participation, career development, character and transferable skills development of all students. This role will assist the school by creating and maintaining a career development program that connects students, parents, the community, world of work and Tertiary pathways. This role works with the students to make informed choices to navigate their current and future studies and careers.

A snapshot of the key focus areas:
• Manage and provide individual career development support and services to students and their parents
• Provide a coaching and referral service to assist students in decision making about critical educational, personal, social, emotional and career development, and provide ongoing support during the implementation phase of their decisions

  • Assist the school in the implementation of student protection, behaviour support management processes that may involve giving input into personalised student learning plans.
  • Provide specific support in the senior school through involvement in the process of Senior Education and Training (SET) planning, career development and future pathway options coaching. 
  • Assist with and help arrange regular parent and student meetings to discuss progress made against SET plan
  • Assist students and school with career experience activities. Making sure all relevant documentation is collected and students are accounted for. 
  • Be a key contact for students, teachers and parents and carers for students who are engaged with VET programs as offered through a range of different RTO or head start programs at university 
  • Provide specialised support in response to student protection issues, critical incidents and emergencies
  • Networking in the local business community to communicate the schools careers engagement programme and feedback to the school the various opportunities for students of the school 

About You

Experience & Skills

  • Coaching and mentoring experience essential
  • Previous experience displaying professional and effective interpersonal, communication and liaison skills with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Key to be self-motivated but also inspire and motivate young people to dream about future possibilities 
  • Experience with working with school aged children essential
  • Understanding relevant school teaching and learning practices, relevant curriculum and general school processes is advantageous
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of different pathways, university offerings, tertiary and VET sectors including RTO communications and AASN networks 
  • Proven ability to embrace and contribute to new approaches when working in a changing environment.
  • Ability to develop and manage the school’s career experiences and pathway plans and positively contribute to creating, evaluating and improving careers development programs

Mandatory Criteria

• Hold a graduate certificate or equivalent, and appropriate recognised qualifications in the field of career development (as outlined in the Professional Standards for Career Development Practitioners – CICA) or the intention to gain such qualifications 
• Current Working with Children Blue Card 
• Advanced interpersonal and communication skills
• Relationship building and problem-solving skills
• Proven and effective leadership skills
• Professional Registration with Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA) or Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) – Advantageous
