Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH)

The much anticipated hospital at Kawana will open on Tuesday 21 March, and it will be accepting Emergency Ward patients in the following week. CCPS staff will be shown the hospital’s facilities on 13 March, very kindly arranged by the hospital’s Wishlist Foundation. Our Teachers need to know about this facility as they are currently working with the future employees and specialists of this hospital. It is important for CCPS to fully understand the significance of this wonderful healthcare resource for The Coast. SCUH already employs some of our parents, particularly many who have moved to the region for this employment. Many of your children will no doubt be employed at SCUH, which promises amazing careers in state of the art facilities. It is the largest single construction in the southern hemisphere at a cost of almost $2 billion. There will be 450 beds, expanded to 738, and with 3,500 car park spaces. The SCUH website can provide you with more details of employment, and the statistics around the hospital, etc., at https://www.health.qld.gov.au/scuhospital The services to be provided are listed below:  •    emergency services  •    comprehensive cancer centre, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy  •    specialised medical and surgical services, including maxillofacial surgery, a major trauma service and paediatrics  •    maternity service, including neonatal care  •    rehabilitation service  •    mental health unit  •    renal service  •    interventional and diagnostic clinical support services, including a PET scanner for diagnosing certain types of cancer and cardiac catheterisation laboratories  •    ambulatory care (outpatient) services  •    allied health services.
